Dumplings are one of the most important and popular Chinese New Year dishes. They represent prosperity because their shape is very much like the money in the ancient times. Sometimes a few gold coins are placed in the dumplings, and the ones who get the coin-dumplings are supposed to have good luck in the coming year. Nowadays, coins are gradually replaced by candy or peanut to be more sanitary.
Dumplings also signify family reunion. Chinese New Year is the most important holiday in China and most people would do anything to go home for a visit during this time. Traditionally, families sit around the dinner table and wrap dumplings together in the afternoon on Spring Festival Eve. Then, dumplings are eaten at midnight and throughout the Chinese New Year holiday.
Don't forget to eat some dumplings since the holiday season is not yet over and we wish you the best of luck and prosperity in 2023!
